get involvedWe are dedicated to providing diverse volunteering opportunities for people with all levels of skills and experience and we offer an inclusive, stimulating, friendly and supportive environment. As a Joymac Care volunteer or peer supporter you can expect excellent experience and good training opportunities including qualifications leading to national accreditation for demonstrated voluntary commitment.

Why not get involved by volunteering! We have several vacancies at present which may be of interest to you.

  1. Befriender ; In our service we support individuals with learning disabilities and autism. They are interested in community activities such as cooking, swimming, knitting and arts. We offer 24 hour support to develop their skills and to live more independently. You will meet the individuals , get to know them and join them in different activities such as bowling, cycling and others.

 You will need to be able to work as part of a team, have good communication skills, be friendly, calm and reliable. It would be ideal if you had a full UK driving licence. Required commitment; A few hours per week to complete an activity (minimum 3 months).

You will be given training in safeguarding and a local induction to the service. You will get to know amazing individuals and gain experience in supporting people with learning disabilities to develop their skills. You will be supported by the team and receive regular supervision.

2) The Garden Angels programme supports people to develop skills in gardening and to grow their own fruits and vegetables. You will assist the group leader in supporting people with learning disabilities to engage with and participate in different gardening activities as well as arts and crafts, baking and conservation work. You will need an interest in gardening and have good social and communication skills.

You will gain experience in and knowledge of gardening and working with people who have learning disabilities, autism and communication needs. You will have fun outdoors and support people to make a visible difference in their outside spaces. You will be supported by the group leader.

3) Music enthusiasts are needed to help out with our Community Choirs . You must be available to help at the venues every week and be prepared to make tea, help lock up, be friendly and enthusiastic. Full participation and interest in the life of the Community Choirs with the possibility of some travel-buddying helping choir members to and from gigs if convenient.

4) We offer placements for Social Work and Nursing students wishing to gain experience working in the field. This benefits student to gain direct contact with service users, opportunities to work with people with a gamut of mental health needs and access to our in-house training.

The students will also gain experience of multi-agency working, person centred working to promote independence, choice, inclusion and rights, as well as a chance to work with partnership organisations.

For nursing students, placement in our partner registered care homes and resource centres, access to qualified nursing staff mentors and clinical work experience.

For social workers, an opportunity to work in Resource centres with service users, supported living work with service users, access to experienced staff and practice teachers to support their placement, and access to specialist training.
